Disciples of Christ Historical Society is a member-based organization. While we are a general ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), like all other general ministries we are an independent, self-sustaining non-profit organization, governed by our own Board of Trustees.
We depend on the interest and generosity of our members to carry out the work to which we believe this ministry is called.
The Historical Society exists to insure that the irreplaceable materials of our Stone-Campbell heritage are kept safe for generations to come. There is a good reason we have become the primary guardians of these historic artifacts. It is because we are absolutely committed to their care.
And we just as readily share the good news of Jesus Christ today through lectures, seminars, publications, and by assisting researchers and historians.
Of course, this mission requires many resources. We must have the proper environmentally controlled space for artifacts and documents. We must have staff to aid researchers. And we must have members who believe, just as much as we do, that the Stone-Campbell tradition is worthy of preservation.
No, we can never supply a quid pro quo for membership. What we offer in material benefits (like a subscription to Discipliana) cannot equal the financial support we request. But, our purpose is not, in the main, to publish a journal, or to sponsor historical research. We do those things because we truly want to share our story with the present generation.
It is the future that we are most committed to, however. And we hope to continue finding people who will believe in the future along with us.
