Disciples Cookbook Project Planned
The Historical Society is launching a new initiative to gather Disciples recipes from across the Church for publication. The Disciples Cookbook Project will highlight the best recipes from congregations across the U.S. and Canada. "We're not aiming at just any cookbook," said Historical Society president Glenn Thomas Carson. "We're looking for cookbooks published by Disciples congregations that tell the unique story of that church and its traditions.
Carson Joins Board for Zambia
Historical Society president Glenn Thomas Carson has joined the Board of Directors of The Zambia Project. With a focus on humanitarian assistance to the people of Zambia, the Project offers an inclusive set of programming, including medical care, agriculture, life skills, and education.
2010 Faithful Servant Named
The Reverend Dr. William Lee is the recipient of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society 2010 Faithful Servant Award. Given annually, the award recognizes individuals who have given an extra-measure of service to causes in the whole Church.
2010 Fred Craddock Award Presented
The 2010 Fred Craddock Award for Excellence in Preaching was presented to Rev. Erin Wathen on August 29. The award is presented annually to an individual who has outstanding skills in the pulpit.
James Seale, Former Historical Society President, Dies At 79
Disciples of Christ Historical Society mourns the loss of president emeritus James M. Seale on Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky at age 79. Jim was a devoted historian and great supporter of the Historical Society in addition to being a minister and author.
Historical Society President Announces His Final Preaching Tour
Dr. Glenn Thomas Carson announced that he would conduct one final preaching tour. And in Conclusion…The Final Preaching Tour gives Disciples congregations another opportunity to hear this acclaimed preacher. Upon the conclusion of the tour Carson will turn all of his attention to explaining the Society’s mission and ministry.
Reading Room Rededicated
The Society has dedicated the Evelyn and Harold Watkins Reading Room in the Thomas W. Phillips Memorial Archives. The reading room was named for these two Disciples leaders to recognize the many years of service they have given to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). April 12, 2010
New Communion Exhibit Opens
“Come to the Table: an exhibit featuring the practice of communion in the Stone-Campbell heritage” celebrates the rich tradition of meeting at Christ’s table each week to remember him. The exhibit is on display through the fall of 2010.

Cyrus N. (Russ) White, outgoing President and Publisher of Chalice Press (Christian Board of Publication), was presented the 2011 Faithful Servant Award at the 2011 General Assembly.
Clay Stauffer, senior minister of Woodmont Christian Church (DOC) in Nashville, Tennessee, is the 2011 recipient of the Fred Craddock Award for Excellence in Preaching. Stauffer took the helm as senior minister of Woodmont at 27, becoming the youngest pastor ever to lead the church.
