The award was presented by Dr. Glenn Thomas Carson, president of Disciples of Christ Historical Society, at Loudon Avenue Christian Church in Roanoke, Virginia on September 12th.
Rev. Dr. William Lee is the senior pastor of Loudon Avenue Christian Church. Before his calling to ministry, Dr. Lee was a teacher in the Roanoke Public School System. In addition to his other areas of ministry, since 1989 Dr. Lee has led his congregation in providing health care to people in need. The program began with blood pressure checks after services on Sunday and grew to include cancer screenings, nutrition, fitness education, and non-emergency transportation to physicians and pharmacies. What was once a congregational outreach grew into a community-wide clinic, New Horizons Health Care, which serves 9,000 people annually. The newly remodeled educational wing of the facility has been named in Dr. Lee’s honor.
A graduate of Virginia State College and Duke University, Dr. Lee serves with excellence throughout the life of the Church. He served as Moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 2005 to 2007, and has been the chair of the Blue Ridge Health Care Board of Directors, along with a host of other accomplishments.
