Disciples of Christ Historical Society, in partnership with The Craddock Center, presented the 2010 Fred Craddock Award for Excellence in Preaching to Rev. Erin Wathen on August 29. The award is presented annually to an individual who has outstanding skills in the pulpit.

The award was presented by Rev. Glenn Thomas Carson at Foothills Christian Church in Glendale, Arizona. Wathen received a certificate, an engraved crystal award, and a cash gift.

Wathen is the pastor of Foothills Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Glendale, Arizona. Originally from Kentucky, Wathen received her bachelor’s degree from Transylvania University and a Master of Divinity from Lexington Theological seminary. She was recently the keynote speaker at the Arizona Women’s Retreat, speaking on the theme of “Spirited Places.”

Glenn Thomas Carson, president of the Historical Society said in announcing the award, “Our partnership with the Craddock Center on this annual award is a real joy. The opportunity to identify and recognize the excellent ministries of our younger Disciples clergy helps us to see all of the great work being done on our behalf across the U.S. and Canada.”
