The Historical Society is launching a new initiative to gather Disciples recipes from across the Church for publication. The Disciples Cookbook Project (DCP) will highlight the best recipes from congregations across the U.S. and Canada.
DCP will also collect church cookbooks for preservation in the archives of the Historical Society.
"We're not aiming at just any cookbook," said Historical Society president Glenn Thomas Carson. "We're looking for cookbooks published by Disciples congregations that tell the unique story of that church and its traditions.
"All those attending the General Assembly in Nashville are encouraged to bring their church cookbooks for inclusion in the Project. A sampling of cookbooks received so far will be on display at the Thomas W. Phillips Memorial Archives and at the Historical Society booth in the convention center exhibit hall.
KK Wiseman is the originator of DCP. "Church potlucks are the heart and soul of every congregation," Wiseman said. The Disciples Cookbook Project is co-chaired by Wiseman and Carson and will capture the history of churches in a way that tells the story of individual congregations, and reveals the thread that ties all churches together.
Congregations can include their church cookbooks in the Project by mailing them to:
