Organized in blocks of two lessons each, Streamers is a twelve week study including introduction, lessons, and illustrations that is adaptable to a wide variety of programming. The format can be used in Sunday School, VBS, new member classes, or for individual study. (Chapters 1 and 2 are now available with three more chapters to come).
It serves as an excellent resource to orient new members, but is equally valuable as a refresher for those who have grown up in these congregations. The lessons can be used as a teaching resource, or for personal study, with all the commentary and guides included at each step.
Designed as Bible-based lessons to promote the study of key scriptures, Streamers focuses on New Testament study and draws the student toward a deeper understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of our ancestors.
Written by Dr. Deborah Adams Phelps, the award winning educator with over 28 years of classroom experience, Streamers is offered in partnership by Disciples of Christ Historical Society and Disciples Home Missions. It is available for free download at www.discipleshistory.org.
Glenn Thomas Carson, president of the Historical Society, says that “this is the curriculum people have been waiting for. Again and again people ask us where they can find a resource to teach about our movement in Sunday School. Here it is.” Carson adds “Dr. Phelps has produced a marvelous resource that will be used, literally, around the world by thousands of congregations. She deserves thanks from all of us.”
Streamers is the latest addition to the growing resources found on both the Historical Society’s website and on www.discipleshomemissions.org, the site of Disciples Home Missions. Congregations of all three streams of the Stone-Campbell movement are encouraged to visit these websites to learn more.
Disciples of Christ Historical Society is located in Nashville, Tennessee. Glenn Thomas Carson, president. Disciples Home Missions is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dan Clark, acting interim president. Both are general ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
