Everything Saved

Thank you for the outpouring of concern about the major water incident we experienced at the Thomas W. Phillips Memorial Archives earlier this year. Repairs are almost complete. But, most importantly, we are happy to report that all documents damaged have been restored and nothing was lost. That’s what we mean when we say “We’re keeping our promise.”

Historical Society Receives Bequest

First Christian - Tulsa
First Christian Church,
Tulsa

We were saddened by the death late last year of Mrs. Jayne Hopson, member of First Christian Church (DOC) of Tulsa, OK and longtime friend of the Historical Society. Among the many things she did for our history was the establishment of a beautiful congregational history room at her home church. Disciples of Christ Historical Society was one of the six ministries remembered by Mrs. Hopson in her will. Her generous legacy for the mission of our Church totaled over $5 million, with DCHS receiving $700,000 as our portion. Praise be to God for faithful servants like Jayne Hopson who understand that our future depends on knowing our past.

The President's Desk

Even in the middle of challenging times, the people of God prove their faith in their abundant giving. Throughout this year we have experienced the generosity of our Members, as you have offered your time, your insights, and your gifts. When others might say that yesterday is something best forgotten, you have stood with us to proclaim that the tomorrow we truly want will never arrive without a clear understanding of what got us to today. The future is calling and with your help we’ll get there with our marvelous story intact. Peace.

There’s Still Time

You still have time to make a contribution to the Evelyn and Hal Watkins Reading Room. In 2008 we dedicated our redesigned exhibit hall, and now we are busy preparing our reading room for dedication in the spring of 2010. These Disciples are worthy of our gratitude and our honor. Won’t you make your contribution today?
