Have you
remembered the Historical Society
in your will?

The President's Desk
They say ‘love makes the world go around.’ I hope it keeps spinning faster.
The Reverend Dr. Sharon Watkins, General Minister and President of the Christian Church (DOC), has said that she dreams of a Christian community that has such great love “that it shows and people want it.” And Dr. Glen Miles, senior minister of Country Club Christian Church (DOC) in Kansas City, reminds us that we should “never, ever underestimate the power of our message when we proclaim ‘God is love.’”
Jesus loves you, the gospels proclaim. This good news doesn’t need any news added to it. The Son of God loves you. One evangelist tells us that the Son was there in the beginning. He was one with God. Then he came to live with us and be one of us. He gave himself to us and for us. He loved us. And, we declare, he still does.
That message is central to our mission at the Historical Society. We keep materials safe so that the world will know of God’s love. We tell our story, so that people can experience the love that only Christ can bring.
We want everyone, everywhere to know Jesus loves you. It’s why we are here. And it always will be.
In Christ’s Peace,
Glenn Thomas Carson
Standard Collection
Mark Taylor, editor of the Christian Standard, led the way in depositing a collection that had been held for decades by Standard Publishing. The collection includes books from the personal library of Isaac Errett, founding editor of the Christian Standard, almost 3,500 biographical and photographic files, and two rare copies of Alexander Campbell’s “Sermon on the Law” published in 1816.
The collection is currently being catalogued and will soon be ready for the eager eyes of researchers. See More Images

Oscar Haynes Day
An afternoon of music and oratory was held at National City Christian Church in Washington D.C. on September 30. The event highlighted fundraising efforts for the Oscar Haynes Exhibit Hall in the T.W. Phillips Memorial in Nashville (home of the Society). We hope to dedicate the refurbished space in 2008.
Contributions in Oscar’s honor continue to be gratefully received.
