Preserving Archival Documents & Photographs
Biographical Information is important

In theory, biographical information is available on all past and present ministers in the service of the churches related to the Stone-Campbell movement. However, there is no one single source which will readily divulge all the information which a single researcher may desire.

Biographical files are maintained at Disciples of Christ Historical Society on all ministers and some noted lay people where information is available. It is generally the responsibility of the congregation or the individual to provide this information.

Following is the biographical material desired by the Society:

Biographical information

  • Date and place of birth
  • Name of parents including mother's maiden name
  • Education - secondary, college or university, graduate school, continuing education
  • Date and place of ordination and materials related to the service
  • Names, birth dates and information about children
  • Names and dates of congregations served or ministerial positions held
  • Church offices and positions held
  • Community offices and positions held and fraternal or civic groups of which you are or have been a member
  • Advanced degrees and awards (what, when, where and by whom)
  • If deceased, date of death and place of burial

Citations and Mementoes

  • Books related to the life and work of the church (if the person's library is being dismantled)
  • Records of travel done in pursuit of education, ministry or missionary work
